Vintage Oil Lamp Vinaigrette Charm 14K Yellow Gold and Turquoise
This "genie lamp" charm/pendant is just stunning!
The metalwork is very delicate, with open filigree all along the top. It's possible that the intention of this piece was to function as a vinaigrette:
"A vinaigrette is a small filigree container used to hold a perfume-soaked sponge or piece of cotton. Vinaigrette jewelry was worn by ladies during the Victorian era to mask unpleasant odors in their environments."
Today, you could easily tuck a piece of lavender, a perfumed cloth, some essential oil, a love note....anything really, inside the charm! The possibilities are endless!
This piece is vintage, and may be as old as antique, however without a maker's mark present I can't say for sure.
The bottom of the lamp has a worn "14K" stamp, and I have tested the metal to verify.
